Job Summary

The Principal Engineer - Product Catalog Platform operates at the intersection of deep technical execution and broad organizational influence. This role will resolve complex architectural questions, set high standards for AI-native engineering, and ensure that our platform decisions enhance the business over time, rather than incur technical debt. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this position collaborates closely with peer Principals, Engineering Managers, and VPs across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the architecture of the product catalog platform, including service design, data modeling, API contracts, and technology choices across the entire stack.
• Lead the technical scoping and execution of the catalog modernization initiative, working in close coordination with the Catalog Engineering Manager and cross-functional partners.
• Act as a hands-on contributor by writing production code, developing proofs of concept, and validating architectural decisions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align catalog strategies with overall business objectives, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation within the team.
• Continuously evaluate and introduce new technologies and methodologies to enhance the catalog platform’s performance and scalability.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Principal Engineer or in a similar technical leadership role, with a strong focus on software architecture and design.
• Extensive knowledge of API design, data modeling, and service-oriented architecture.
• Hands-on experience in modern programming languages and frameworks, with a clear understanding of best practices in software development.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
• Experience in leading complex technical projects, from conception through execution.
